The Foundation is a tax-exempt nonprofit 501(c)(3) publicly supported charitable organization formed by a group of concerned and public-spirited citizens. The purpose of the Foundation is to raise funds to support the establishment and maintenance of enhancements and amenities that are intended to provide for the comfort, condolence and ceremony associated with the interment and memorial of veterans and their families.
Active membership in the Foundation comes from approximately 40 veteran, city and county organizations plus concerned private, civic and fraternal organizations and individuals. Membership is not limited to veterans, and there are no membership dues.
Presently, the major foundation endeavor is raising funds for the construction on the cemetery site, a memorial to all veterans buried there.
The Foundation was originally established for the purpose of getting a national cemetery in North Central Texas as soon as possible. The Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery was dedicated May 12, 2000, so it can be said that the Foundation was successful in that regard.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs operates the cemetery, but that department is not funded to provide certain amenities considered vital by this Foundation.
The cemetery was dedicated by the VA on May 12, 2000 and burial operations began May 15. The 638 acre cemetery will provide about 300,000 burial spaces. The cemetery is located at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211. Map
